Travel can mean the exhilaration of seeing new places or the nightmare of not having the comforts and security of home. One of my favorite ways to visit new places is to travel by cruise ship. I board the ship and settle into my cabin, leaving most of my stress and worries behind on dry land. On board a cruise ship you will have 24 hour access to some of the finest food you will ever taste. There are nightly shows and many shore excursions to choose from. If simple rest and relaxation is what you’re looking for, you can opt to spend your day laying by the pool, sipping on your favorite drink, and reading.
If you know in advance that you will be passing through some less-than-desirable neighborhoods or areas of town en route to your destination, don’t rely solely on your in-dash GPS system. Map out alternate routes using MapQuest or Google Maps, so you don’t end up in a bad part of town, in the middle of the night, with bad directions.
Do research on whether certain vaccinations are recommended or required prior to traveling to a foriegn country. This is as much to protect yourself as it is to obey the requirements of the country. You can check with your doctor, visit the website of the country you are visiting, or do a web search for the information.
If you are flexible with your travel schedule, consider booking your trip the day before or the day after your ideal departure date. Just one day can mean the difference of one hundred dollars or more in savings. Many of the big travel websites give you the option to see the prices of the days surrounding your ideal date.
Attend educational seminars while traveling on board a cruise ship. Most ships offer these lectures for free, and they are often entertaining and interesting. Many talk about something related to your cruise, such as the wildlife that you might see when you port. This activity can make your entire trip more enjoyable.
Plan the amount of clothing you take with you, based on the length of your trip. If you plan to be traveling in Bali for several weeks, consider laundry service mid-way through your trip, to lessen the amount of clothing you need to pack. This also reduces the amount of dirty laundry you have to deal with when you return home!
A great travel tip is to only pack garments that you will be able to wear on at least three different occasions. By filling your suitcase with items that have multiple uses, you will be able to streamline your travel wardrobe and carry less bulk along the way.
